Yaxchilan is a lost mayan city that was discovered in the middle of the jungle between the border of Guatemala and Mexico, right by the river that divides the two countries. You can only reach this site by boat since there is no access by land because of how dense the jungle is. Yaxchilan is still surrounded by nature, and it reminded me of a Cambodian landscape but with mayan ruins, it was absolutely beautiful. The site is still not so restricted to the public, unlike Chichen Itza, here you are actually allowed to wander the temples freely and climb them all the way to the top. Monkeys are common around the area, and the noises they make, makes Yaxchilan even a more incredible experience. In Yaxchilan you really feel like you are visiting an ancient and wise civilization that we know very little about, it is by far one of the must sees for tourists and locals around Mexico
