On July 17 there is a festival in kyoto known as the Gion Matsuri. A friend and I heard about it while in Japanese class, and we decided to pack up our bags and head to Kyoto that same afternoon. We were in southern Japan, in the island of Kyushu, so reaching Kyoto took around 7 hours. We knew the festival took place at night so we arrived right on time for the parade and the crowded streets. The food been served around is so delicious, I tried many different types of skewers and takoyaki balls! It is really incredible the amount of varied foods they offer. There was live music playing around, by different types of street musicians, and overall it was a really nice night. In Japan you are allowed to drink in the streets, so grab a beer and eat at every corner you can. ![]() Bullet train, known as Shinkansen, it has smoking sections. ![]() girl dressed in traditional yukata inside a store street food vendor ![]() Heart shaped eggs |
